• Sandy Nguyen of Aurora, Colo., who collected tens of thousands of dollars in charitable contributions after lying about her 6-year-old son having cancer, was sentenced to five years of probation and 90 nights in jail.
• Michael Fine, a Cleveland-area lawyer accused of hypnotizing women for sex, agreed to his suspension by the Ohio Supreme Court and is undergoing medical treatment, his attorney said.
• Roberta Rolinskas, 82, and her husband, Raymond Rolinskas, 84, who narrowly escaped when a small cargo plane crashed into their home, are suing Central Airlines, which owned the plane that hit the home near Chicago's Midway Airport.
• Manuel Garcia, 70, was sentenced in Kansas City, Mo., to two years in federal prison after admitting making three telephone calls to authorities in October 2013 about a fake plot to contaminate water supplies in Kansas City, St. Louis and Wichita and Topeka, Kan.
• Allen Wayne Beard and Robert Lee Moltz, both of Horn Lake, Miss., and accused of an Ebola hoax last month that triggered an emergency response, were indicted under a law that makes it a felony to cause someone to falsely believe that a person has been "exposed to a harmful biological substance."
• Shelley Dufresne, 32, a Louisiana teacher accused of participating in group sex with a 16-year-old student and another faculty member, pleaded innocent to a felony charge of having carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
• Charles Hubbard, 57, was charged in Maine with assault, terrorizing and criminal mischief, accused of throwing a table at a vehicle and then punching its 16-year-old driver because he was upset by the sound of the car's exhaust.
