Remount Road extends north off Camp Robinson Road toward the North Little Rock Municipal Airport.

Detours will be set up at Kierre Drive on the south end and Mission Road on the north end for motorists to travel east to access John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Kierre Drive connects with JFK, while motorists can take Mission Road to Osage Drive, which connects to JFK.

The airport can be accessed from the detour points by taking JFK north to Maryland Avenue then west to Remount Road. Detour signs were placed along Remount Road on Monday.

The bridge that passes over Five Mile Creek will be replaced with a triple box culvert. The bridge's steel beams have greatly deteriorated, Smith said, requiring the bridge to be replaced. The bridge was built in the 1930s, he said.

"Some of the beams on the existing bridge are rusted through so you can see all the way through the steel," Smith said. "So it's time."

Work will start Tuesday upon closure, he said.

"Hopefully we can be done with it before Christmas," Smith said, weather permitting.

The project costs about $900,000, Smith said.
