Christopher Morris, 35, of Fort Smith was found dead when officers arrived at a residence after receiving a call about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Daniel Grubbs, a spokesman for the Fort Smith Police Department.

The shooting took place at a residence in the 1400 block of North 21st Street. Grubbs declined to release the exact address.

Grubbs said Morris' brother, who is a youth, was wounded in the gunfire. He was in the intensive-care unit at a Fort Smith hospital and has been able to assist police.

"At this point, he's been able to speak with us," Grubbs said.

Grubbs said details were still sketchy, but police have the names of three suspects. He said police believe the three boys are all about 15 years old.

Police were told there had been an altercation, and Morris left the house with a shotgun, Grubbs said. But the shotgun wasn't fired, he said.

"We have some information that there was a struggle over the shotgun, and the deceased was shot with another gun," said Grubbs. "There were shots fired from another gun."

Grubbs said he didn't know how many shots were fired or what caliber weapon was used.

"There weren't any shell casings at the scene that we located," he said. "We're still trying to ascertain if this prior altercation even occurred."
