Windstream taps Gunderman as interim CFO

Little Rock-based Windstream announced Wednesday that Bob Gunderman has been named the telecom’s interim chief financial officer.

Gunderman, the company’s senior vice president and treasurer who previously served as vice president of financial planning, succeeds Tony Thomas, who has been named president of the real estate investment trust Windstream is creating by spinning off some of its telecommunications assets. The spinoff transaction, announced July 29, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2015, and at that point Thomas will leave Windstream and become CEO of the unnamed real estate investment trust, also known as an REIT.

"I have worked with Bob for many years, and I value his leadership and counsel," Windstream President and CEO Jeff Gardner said in a statement. "We have a deep and very talented finance organization. I appreciate Bob's willingness to assume these duties in addition to his treasurer role so that Tony can devote his full attention to the formation of the REIT."

Windstream, which provides voice and data services to businesses and offers broadband Internet and phone services in rural areas, says it is conducting a national search to fill the chief financial officer position.
