Family Dollar in LR robbed at gunpoint

Authorities in Little Rock are searching for a man who robbed a Family Dollar store at gunpoint shortly before it closed Wednesday night.

Little Rock police report it happened about 10 p.m. at the store at 8510 Colonel Glenn Road.

According to a report, the gunman waited until customers left the store, then engaged two clerks in conversation at the counter.

One employee went to a back room to alert police that the man was acting suspiciously. Meanwhile, the man raised his sweatshirt to reveal to the other employee a handgun in his waistband.

The gunman then threatened to kill the employee unless he handed over cash from the register and cigarettes, the report said. He then fled east from the business.

Police searched the area but did not make an arrest.

The robber is described as a 6-foot-1 black man who weighs 180 pounds. He was wearing a knit hat, a purple Louisiana State University sweatshirt, camouflage pants and black shoes at the time of the robbery.

The robbery in Little Rock comes a little more than a week after an attempted hold-up at a Family Dollar in North Little Rock on Sept. 22. In that case, a man wearing a mask demanded cash at the store at 4204 Camp Robinson Road, but left without getting anything.
