Master to hold hearing in wage-increase lawsuit

A special master for Arkansas' Supreme Court will review evidence in the lawsuit that aims to remove a proposed minimum wage increase from the November ballot.

Former Court of Appeals Judge John B. Robbins was named by the Supreme Court to hold hearings and review evidence regarding the lawsuit filed by Little Rock businessman Jackson T. Stephens Jr. The hearing is Thursday morning in Little Rock.

Stephens is challenging the validity of the signatures that were submitted for the proposal, which would gradually raise Arkansas' minimum wage from $6.25 an hour to $8.50 by 2017.

Robbins must file a report with the court by noon on Oct. 10. The Supreme Court also wants briefs filed by Oct. 13 and reply briefs three days later.
