Searcy slips by West Memphis

WEST MEMPHIS -- Yards were tough to come by for Searcy all night, but Lions quarterback Andrew Neaville got the 1 he needed in the end.

Neaville's 1-yard sneak with just over a minute to play converted a 4th and 1 from the West Memphis 32 and the Lions ran out the clock to secure a 13-12 victory over the Blue Devils.

The Lions (2-3 overall, 1-1 in the 7A/6A-East Conference) rushed for 109 yards, but Neaville completed 14 of 21 for 159 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Lions were less than a yard away from the first-down marker on the fourth-down sneak, and Neaville converted the first down by the nose of the ball.

"I don't know if it was a yard he [Neaville] gained or it was just inches," Searcy Coach Jeromy Pool said. "West Memphis' defense wouldn't give us much on the ground all night. I thought his first down was typical of the way the night went for us."

West Memphis pulled to 13-12 to play after a 17-yard run by senior Stanley Gaines with 7:59 to play, but Searcy stopped the two-point conversion attempt of Martavous Thomas.

Neaville hit Rivers Ridout with a 3-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to put the Lions on top. Harrison Sloan of West Memphis blocked Chris Qualls' extra-point attempt.

The Blue Devils (2-3, 1-1) tied the game at 6-6 with 4:17 to play in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown by Quintavious Coleman.

Neaville Searcy ahead to stay with a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:39 to play in the third quarter. Qualls added the extra point to make t 13-6.

John L. Dixon led Searcy in rushing with 28 carries for 87 yards.
