Boaters warned of turbulent river

The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small-craft advisory for the Arkansas River from Ozark in Franklin County downstream after recent heavy rains caused flows to rise.

During the high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft. All pleasure boaters are urged to stay off the river until flows recede below 70,000 cubic feet per second, a news release from the Corps said.

Flow at Ozark-Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam at Ozark was about 100,000 cubic feet per second, and flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville were reported at 117,000 cubic feet per second and climbing.

Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock were about 81,000 cubic feet per second and rising, while flows at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff were about 73,000 cubic feet per second and rising.

Daily river information can be obtained at swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/WaterLevels.aspx or the Corps' mobile app, which can be found in mobile-app stores by searching for USACE Little Rock.
