Police are investigating the Monday morning death of an infant in Benton.
Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell said officers responded about 7:58 a.m. to 2213 Fox Trail in Benton to a report of an unresponsive 11-week-old child.
The child was transported to Saline Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead by hospital staff and Saline County coroner.
The investigation of the child’s death is ongoing, and “considerable departmental resources” are being utilized for this case, Russell said in a statement.
"Additional information cannot be released at this time due to the seriousness of the case," Russell said.
No charges have been filed at this time.
