HOT SPRINGS -- Hot Springs Lakeside scored three touchdowns in the final 7:41 and downed winless De Queen 57-42 Friday night at Austin Field.
Colt Housley's 9-yard run and Grant Gaston's extra point put the Rams (4-4, 3-2) ahead to stay at 43-42. Cody Cockrell later returned an interception 45 yards and Clint Smedley passed 31 yards to Conrad Carlton for Lakeside touchdowns.
DeQueen (0-8, 0-5 in 5A-South) took its fourth lead, 42-36, with 10:01 left on Cody Stephens' 25-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Keels, who also caught a two-point conversion.
Stephens passed for three third-quarter touchdowns after De Queen trailed 22-15 at halftime.
Stephens passed 14 yards to Keels at 10:55, 14 yards to Kobi Whitmore at 5:55 and 12 yards to Maurice Moore at 4:47. Leonardo Dominguez kicked the extra point for a 22-22 tie, but two conversion attempts (a kick and a pass) failed after De Queen went up 34-29 with two touchdowns in a span of 1:08.
Smedley ran 11 yards for a Lakeside go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter, Gaston kicking it to 29-22. Housley's third touchdown run of the game, from the 4, regained the lead for Lakeside 36-34 in the final minute of the third quarter.
Housley's 4-yard run and Gaston's extra point at 8:38 was the only scoring in the second quarter.
Stephens figured in both De Queen scoring plays early, his 55-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion making it 8-0 at the 6:31 mark of the first quarter. Stephens passed 65 yards to Whitmore for a touchdown, and Dominguez kicked the Leopards ahead 15-8 with 2:33 left in the first quarter.
Maurice Bradford, a big-play man for Lakeside all season, scored the Rams' first two touchdowns. He scored on a 41-yard run at 3:18 and Smedley's pass to Carlton for a two-point conversion earned Lakeside an 8-8 tie. Smedley then passed 9 yards to Bradford for a touchdown in the final minute of the first quarter, Gaston's extra point making it 15-15.
