2 die in accidents on roads in state

Two people died in accidents on Arkansas roadways Friday, the Arkansas State Police reported.

Kewon Jones, 24, was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Arkansas 165 in Lonoke County. He was driving a 2010 Nissan north near Humnoke when he attempted to pass another vehicle and struck an 18-wheeler head on about 3:25 p.m.

The Nissan then span and struck a 2013 Chevrolet.

Jones of North Little Rock was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Jimmy Huckaby, 61, and the Chevrolet's driver, Darryl Jackson, 55, were taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart.

Conditions were clear and dry when the crash occurred, state police said.

Also on Friday, Tiffany Koonce, 18, died when she apparently got out of a vehicle traveling north on Arkansas 27 in Hempstead County. Koonce of Hot Springs got out of the passenger seat about 12:30 p.m. as the 2005 Chevrolet approached Hempstead County Road 34.

She died at the scene. Further circumstances of her death were unclear.

The 27-year-old driver, Justin Shaw of Delight, was not injured.
