FOUNTAIN FEST

Fall flavors Festives' fun at Arts Center fundraiser

Last year Fountain Fest took place a full month earlier and coincided with artist Chelsye Garrett's "yarn bomb" installation. It was a surprise and a thrill, but summer heat and humidity was too much with the restless Festives, and event founders (The Contemporaries) decided to move it deeper into the fall calendar. They picked Oct. 16.

Well, some other folks had that same date in mind, and history will long remember Event Crash '14, when as many as a dozen organizations held fundraisers and receptions all around the Capital City.

It was a beautiful night notwithstanding. The setting sun turned the blue sky to periwinkle, and the Carrie Remmel Dickinson Fountain provided the tiny tintinnabulation to the soundtrack of human conversation and laughter. The visual centerpiece was a couple hundred foil balloons strung like a toppled tower along the water crown of the fountain.

There was again barbecue from Whole Hog Cafe of North Little Rock, desserts from Cupcakes on Kavanaugh and drinks provided by several distributors including Stone's Throw Brewery.

Fountain Fest is a fundraiser for the Contemporaries, a group of young Arkansas Arts Center supporters who take the proceeds from the event and buy a piece of art for the center.
