Head-on crash kills one, hurts two

One person was killed and two others hurt Tuesday morning in Poinsett County when a vehicle crossed the centerline and hit a truck head-on, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. as 37-year-old Johnathon L. Coldiron of Harrisburg drove a 2007 Hyundai west on Arkansas 14, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police say the Hyundai crossed the centerline near Rush Lane east of Harrisburg and hit an eastbound 2003 Chevy truck head-on.

Coldiron died at the scene. The driver of the truck and a passenger in that vehicle were both taken to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro with unspecified injuries.

The report didn't indicate what caused the Hyundai to cross the centerline, though it noted conditions were wet and rainy at the time.

The death was the 373rd in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
