Shooting at LR gas station leaves Alabama man injured

Little Rock police are investigating a Wednesday morning shooting at a gas station that left an Alabama man injured.

Officers responded at 9:34 a.m. to the Exxon gas station at 612 Roosevelt Road, where they made contact with employees Aladdin Saraheen, 30, and Amad Alwan, 46, a Little Rock Police Department report states.

Saraheen told police that a man walked into the business and started firing shots from inside the store at John Mitchell, 35, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., who was parked at a gas pump, according to the report.

Mitchell returned fire toward the business, and his bullets struck the window of the business and the glass by the register, Saraheen told police.

Neither employee was struck during the shooting.

Store surveillance video showed the inside shooter parking an unknown 2000 model, gray Oldsmobile at the business and approaching Mitchell's vehicle before entering the store and firing a handgun at Mitchell, the report states.

The video also showed Mitchell returning fire then running across the parking lot to the Interstate 30 access road, where he falls down in the grass, police said.

Ruth Scott, 21, of Tampa, Fla., was seen driving Mitchell’s white 2013 Chevrolet Impala away from the gas station and picking up Mitchell from the access road before speeding off, the report states.

Officers later responded to Baptist Health Medical Center-Springhill in North Little Rock, where Mitchell was being treated for three to four gunshot wounds in his right leg.

Scott told officers that she and Mitchell were getting gas and food at the business when they noticed the unknown shooter looking at her. The man walked into the store and started shooting, she said. Mitchell, who has a concealed carry permit, used his gun to return fire.

The unknown shooter is described as a 20- to 30-year-old, dark-complected black man with a medium-length afro and a medium build. He was last seen wearing dark pants and possibly a dark pullover with pink in the front and back, police said.
