Nicholas Hatley, 17, whose address was not given, was also charged with disobeying a police officer, not having proof of liability insurance and not having a driver's license Tuesday evening after the accident that injured officer Nathan Ivy, 24, of Jonesboro, police spokesman Paul Holmes said.

Police said Ivy was directing traffic at Highland Avenue and Red Wolf Boulevard while workers repaired a traffic light at the busy intersection about 10 p.m.

Hatley drove through the intersection and struck a Dodge Neon, pushing it into Ivy, reports said. Hatley told patrol officer Rich Rothwell that he did not see Ivy and thought it was his turn to drive through the intersection.

Patrol officer Heath Loggains said Hatley did not appear to be intoxicated.

Ivy was treated for minor injuries at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro early Wednesday and was released.

Hatley will have a hearing in district court in Jonesboro on Tuesday.
