Garland County police say two men have been charged in a Thursday robbery after fleeing from deputies and crashing their vehicle.

At about 4:34 p.m., deputies were dispatched to 156 Honeysuckle Circle to a home invasion burglary in progress, Garland County sheriff’s office spokesman Scott Hinojosa said in a news release.

Witnesses told police that two masked, armed black men entered the home, which was occupied by the victim, he said.

The men left the scene in a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer, witnesses said.

Deputies were traveling west on U.S. 270 to the scene and saw the Trailblazer pass them in the opposite direction.

When officers pursued the Trailblazer, the driver sped away, failing to yield to flashing lights and sirens, according to Hinojosa.

The driver, later identified as Jackie Brandon Jr., proceeded recklessly through rush-hour traffic, eventually hitting and injuring the driver of a westbound vehicle in the 3500 block of Albert Pike, Hinojosa said.

The Trailblazer left the roadway, overturned and ejected the passenger, identified as Stephen Corbett, 27, of Little Rock. Brandon sustained substantial injuries in the crash, and was taken to a Little Rock hospital. Corbett was also injured, but was taken to a Hot Springs hospital.

While at the hospital, deputies recovered a quantity of cash from Corbett that was consistent with what was taken during the home robbery, Hinjosa said. He was booked into the Garland County jail at 10:33 p.m. Thursday.

Corbett and Brandon are each charged with one count of aggravated residential burglary, one count of aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm by certain persons and fleeing. The condition of Brandon, who wasn't listed on either inmate roster for Pulaski or Garland counties, was unknown as of Friday afternoon.
