LITTLE ROCK — Two Republicans in races at the top of the Arkansas ballot this fall say they'll support an initiative to raise the state's minimum wage from $6.25 an hour to $8.50 per hour by 2017.
A spokesman for gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson said Friday that the candidate would support the measure on the November ballot. Senate candidate Tom Cotton said he was supporting it, too.
Hutchinson said previously that legislators should address the issue.
Democrats hope the proposal will draw their supporters to the polls. The campaigns of gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross and incumbent Sen. Mark Pryor said the Republicans favor the ballot issue for political purposes only.
Hutchinson's stand was first reported by the website Talk Business. Cotton spoke to radio host Alice Stewart on KHTE.
