Arkansas holds annual prescription drug conference

LITTLE ROCK — More than 600 medical professionals, pharmacists, law enforcement officers and educators are gathering in Arkansas for the state's third annual summit on prescription drug abuse.

The summit is being held Wednesday at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock and includes discussions on residential treatment, prescription abuse trends, community response to drug abuse and other topics. The luncheon's keynote speaker will be Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, who is president of the National Association of Attorneys General.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office said the goal of the summit to help reduce the number of deaths and addiction caused by prescription drug misuse and abuse, and to raise public awareness.

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says members of the public will have an opportunity to hear from experts in the field of prescription drug abuse prevention and treatment next week.

Tuesday's event at the Ron Robinson Theater is part of the third annual Arkansas Prescription Drug Abuse Summit.

Speakers at the kickoff event will also participate in the conference, which will be held Wednesday for law enforcement officers, medical professionals, pharmacists and educators.
