RETURNING TO LEARNING

Clinton School's 10th class unwinds ahead of the grind

Seventeen states and eight countries are represented in the new crop of students at the Clinton School of Public Service. The students were welcomed Aug. 22 at a reception in Trapnall Hall.

Joining the 46 new students were Dean Skip Rutherford and his wife, Billie, Mack McLarty, Annie Abrams, Shane Broadway and first lady Ginger Beebe, along with other state and community leaders.

The reception was part of a busy week of orientation at the graduate school, which is part of the University of Arkansas System.

This is the 10th Clinton School class. Rutherford says since its founding in 2004, Clinton School students have performed more than 560 field service projects throughout Arkansas, the United States and in 71 countries, totaling almost 200,000 hours outside the classroom.

The graduate school's mission is to educate and prepare public-service professionals to work to transform complex social, cultural, economic and political systems in a way that challenges oppression and promotes equality and opportunity.
