Comic book characters suit up in alternate duds

Comic-book characters sometimes change, the same as ordinary people do -- their clothes.

• Wonder Woman tossed her old costume in 2010 -- star-spangled granny shorts, golden eagle bustier, red boots, Lasso of Truth and all, gone to Goodwill. She reinvented with a blue jacket over red top, black tights and high-heeled boots.

Fashion tip: Never change in the Invisible Jet.

• Batman's bat-ears rise and fall like Paris hemlines. In 1939, his pointy ears looked three or four inches high against the full moon. They were merest nubs as worn by Adam West in the 1960s TV series. Movie Batman Christian Bale's ears are back to menacing length -- poised on his head like the two sharp prongs on a corn cob holder.

Fashion tip: Ears up to the latest trends.

• Iron Man's riveting fashion sense dictated a change from his original appearance, head-to-toe in tin can-colored armor. Today's comic book and movie Iron Man is a rocket-powered streak of red and gold.

Fashion tip: Some are fashion leaders, some are fashion rebels, and some just solder on.
