Business expo set for Verizon Arena

Market Arkansas, a business-to-business trade show sponsored by the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Verizon Arena.

The expo will be open to businesses and to the public. Admission will be $3. Door prizes will be awarded.

Proceeds from the expo will benefit Chamber of Commerce programs, including Arkansas Scholars, Vital Link, Partners in Education and Leadership Renaissance, and help to pay for higher-education scholarships.

The expo provides an opportunity for businesses to exhibit their products, services and attractions and to visit with other professionals. The event also will feature business training sessions and product demonstrations, according to a chamber news release.

More than 100 exhibits are expected to be featured, according to the news release. More information is available at nlrchamber.org.

Festival to feature 'Latino' food, music

Downtown will be the site of the second annual Latino Food and Music Festival, 6-10 p.m. Saturday, 520 Main St., featuring food samples from vendors from Mexico and other countries.

The event will benefit the Argenta Arts District. Ticket information is available from the Argenta Downtown Council at (501) 379-8478. Children 12 years old and under will be admitted free.

The festival will include traditional Latin dance music with live bands.

Soft drinks, beer and wine will be on sale, according to an Argenta Arts Foundation news release.

Elks' grant to aid Fire Department

A grant from the Elks Lodge of North Little Rock will be used for children's fire-prevention materials to assist the Fire Department, a department news release said.

The Elks organization purchased 1,500 coloring books, as well as crayons and fire hats, to help in the Fire Department's prevention programs.

The materials will be presented Wednesday to Station 7, 2401 McCain Blvd., according to the news release.

Nine graduate from paramedics class

The first paramedic class sponsored by the Fire Department held graduation ceremonies Friday, department officials announced.

The year-long class is the first to be sponsored by a fire department in Arkansas, according to a news release.

Nine students from emergency services agencies across the state graduated, using a privately funded grant.
