Bill Nye to speak in Fayetteville on Sept. 19

Bill Nye, a mechanical engineer and star of the popular 1990s TV show Bill Nye The Science Guy, will speak in Fayetteville next week as the first speaker in the University of Arkansas’ Distinguished Lecture Series this academic year.

The scientist, inventor and comedian will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in Barnhill Arena, UA said. Doors open at 6 p.m.; no tickets are required for the free, public lecture.

Bill Nye the Science Guy ran for 100 half-hour episodes on public television from 1993-98. Nye has also written several books about science geared toward preteens.

The lecture series is a student-sponsored program in which speakers are chosen by a committee of students, faculty and staff, and the events are funded by a student-approved fee.
