Man hit in head, robbed of cash outside liquor store

A 47-year-old North Little Rock man suffered a severe laceration in his head after he was hit and robbed of cash outside a liquor store Monday, authorities said.

No arrests have been made.

The victim told investigators he had just left the Big D Liquor store at 2400 Railroad Ave. and was at the rear of the business when he was hit with an unknown object by a man he didn't know, according to a North Little Rock police report.

Several other men then took $40 in cash from the man's pocket, the report said.

The robbery happened about 12:30 p.m. and was reported about an hour later. Police met the victim at his home on West 39th Street.

A police spokesman said the man was treated at a local hospital for an injury described in the report as a "severe laceration." The injury was not considered life-threatening, Lt. Jim Scott said.

Online posts spreading through social media indicated the robbery happened at a North Little Rock Kroger and that it involved a machete. But, Scott said, those were incorrect and there was "no indication" a machete was the object used to inflict the wound.
