Cold front to bring rain, storms to Arkansas

A slow-moving cold front moving in from the north will deliver showers and thunderstorms through at least Friday, forecasters said Wednesday.

The storms will move along and ahead of the front, and rain will linger in the cooler air behind it, National Weather Service warning coordination meteorologist John Robinson said in a statement.

“It would not be out of the question to see a few storms near severe levels, especially this afternoon and this evening” and particularly in Northwest Arkansas, Robinson said.

Widespread rain is expected with the slow-moving front. “In fact, this will probably be the most widespread rain the state has seen in quite some time,” Robinson added.

Rain totals are likely to range from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch in many areas, but it’s possible there will be a swath of Arkansas — forecasters are unsure where just yet — receiving 2 to 4 inches, he said.
