Be careful where you do not tip

A Philadelphia restaurant owner got angry this week after Eagles running back LeSean McCoy supposedly berated his staff before leaving a 20-cent tip.

The owner of PYT, a restaurant in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia that specializes in creative hamburgers and pub food, posted a picture of McCoy's receipt on Tuesday, which showed the star running back left a 0.3 percent tip on a $61.56 bill, according to the eatery's Facebook page. The image quickly went viral, causing many on social sites to question how a multimillionaire like McCoy could be so stingy. The owner of the restaurant, 43-year-old Tommy Up, also took McCoy to task on Facebook.

"He and his group, from the moment they sat down, were verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways. The derogatory statements about women and their sheer contempt for the staff serving them wasn't the end, however," he wrote. "After Mr. McCoy and his group left I looked over and saw their server, my friend, with his head bowed down and with a very confused look on his face."

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Up said McCoy visited the restaurant on Monday with three friends, though he wasn't sure any of them were athletes. Up said the restaurant was often visited by local sports stars, most often by players from the Philadelphia 76ers, and generally they are "anywhere from great tippers to average."

Up said he has received more than 2,300 emails about the decision to post the photo. Given the notoriously combative nature of Philadelphia sports fans, who once famously booed Santa Claus, he said some of his staff members were concerned about publishing the receipt.

"I'm going to turn off my computer for a while," Up said. "It's been like that scene in 'Miracle on 34th Street' where those bags of mail keep coming in."

Knock, knock

The University of Iowa's department of public safety had some fun on social media at the expense of its Iowa State counterparts.

The undefeated Hawkeyes and winless Cyclones will square off in their annual rivalry game on Saturday, the third game of the season. So Iowa police used their verified Twitter account Tuesday to tweet a knock-knock joke Iowa State's way.

Iowa State police replied "Dare we ask 'who's there?'"

Iowa police responded with a picture of coaches Kirk Ferentz and Paul Rhoads sharing a laugh.

The caption read "Owen. Owen Who? 0-2."

Iowa State police acknowledged the burn, tweeting back "You've won this time ... "

Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman, after BYU hammered the Longhorns 41-7 to hand Charlie Strong his first loss as Longhorns coach: "Strong came in here saying it was time to put the T back in Texas. How about putting the T back in tackle?"
