FORT SMITH — Authorities in western Arkansas are trying to identify a body that was found in the Arkansas River in Sebastian County.
Sebastian County Sheriff's Lt. Philip Pevehouse said the body was reported Thursday morning by a riverboat captain in the Arbuckle Island area. Pevehouse says the body was recovered about 5 miles downstream from Vache Grasse Park.
Pevehouse says the body was not identifiable and was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for identification and to determine the cause of death.
