Maumelle AARP Annual Picnic

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle AARP Chapter will hold its annual picnic at 6 p.m. at the Maumelle Senior Wellness Center. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by the chapter. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. Games will follow the meal. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to attend. Health and Safety Expo

HEBER SPRINGS — The second annual Health and Safety Expo will be held today at the Heber Springs Community Center, 201 Bobbie Jean Lane. Livestock Show and Fair

CLINTON — The 77th annual Van Buren County Livestock Show and Fair will continue through Saturday at the fairgrounds, 1827 Arkansas 16. Activities will include creative arts and livestock exhibits, a carnival, music shows, the Farmer for a Day event for children 10 and younger, a salute to veterans, a dog show and commercial exhibits. Local Art Exhibit

MORRILTON — The Local Art Exhibition at the Rialto Gallery will go up from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Artists who reside or work in Conway County are invited to exhibit up to three works of art at the gallery through Nov. 14. Those did not receive an invitation may bring or send their work to the Rialto Gallery during this time. All work must have screw eyes and wire. Political Rally and Auction

CLINTON — The Van Buren County Fair will host a political rally and auction at 4 p.m. during the fair. Preregistration is required for candidates by calling Seth at (501) 242-1042 or Corrine at (501) 253-1190. The rally is open to all city, county and state candidates. Auction proceeds will go to the Van Buren County Fair scholarships, which are awarded annually.

Dining for Dictionaries

CONWAY — Dining for Dictionaries, sponsored by the Conway Morning Rotary, will hold a pancake-breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stoby’s Restaurant, 805 Donaghey Ave., to help the service organization provide new dictionaries to Conway, Vilonia and Mayflower third-graders. Laura Taylor, event chairwoman, said that with the addition of two schools affected by the April tornado, the dictionary project will reach more than 1,000 students. “The dictionaries become a part of each child’s educational resources, benefiting them throughout their school years,” she said. Tickets for the breakfast are $5 and may be purchased from any Conway Morning Rotarian or at Stoby’s the morning of the event. Children younger than 5 may eat free. People may dine in or carry out.

St. Elizabeth Bazaar, Spaghetti Dinner

OPPELO — St. Elizabeth Church on Arkansas 154 in Oppelo, near the foot of Petit Jean Mountain, will hold a bazaar and spaghetti dinner Sunday. The bazaar is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include bingo, a silent auction, a bake sale and a kiddie land, complete with a bounce house. The spaghetti dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature homemade spaghetti with Petit Jean sausage, homemade bread and salad. Tickets are $13 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and younger when accompanied by an adult.

Registration Deadline

CONWAY — Tuesday is the deadline to register for the 13th annual Prostate Cancer Screening at Conway Regional Medical Center. The free screening will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 22. A group of Conway physicians and Conway Regional staff and volunteers will conduct the screening, along with staff from the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation. An appointment is required and can be made by calling (501) 513-5858.
