Injured ASU teen moved to Atlanta

JONESBORO -- An Arkansas State University student who was impaled in the neck by a broken golf club was transferred to an Atlanta spinal cord rehabilitation center, a spokesman for the facility said.

Natalie Jo Eaton, 18, of Harrisburg was injured on Aug. 19 at the Kappa Alpha fraternity house. Police said a student swung the golf club at a thrown football. The club's shaft broke and struck Eaton in the left side of the neck.

Eaton is a member of Chi Omega sorority.

Medical personnel transported her to a Jonesboro hospital, and she was later taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.

Eaton was moved Tuesday to the Shepherd Center, a spinal and brain injury treatment hospital. She will begin a "rigorous rehabilitation program under the guidance of a full team of medical and rehabilitation specialists," said Jane Sanders, a spokesman for the center.

Eaton's family members said they were appreciative of the support they received from ASU and the community, Sanders said in a news release Tuesday.
