Police spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said police responded to a call from the bank about 2 p.m. A black male wearing a black T-shirt and a shoulder-length blond wig had robbed the bank before fleeing south on Taylor on foot. Allen said it was unknown whether the robber continued on foot after he crossed Cantrell Road or if he entered a vehicle.

Allen said the robber didn't display a weapon but implied that he had one, passing a note to a teller who complied with instructions written on the note. No one was injured, Allen said.

The same robber is believed to have attempted to rob the Onebanc branch at 8000 Cantrell Road, less than 2 miles to the west, about 15-20 minutes earlier. Allen said "security measures" prevented the robber from entering the Onebanc location, although he wouldn't elaborate. Employees at Onebanc declined to comment.

Police arrest man hiding in his dryer

Pulaski County sheriff's deputies arrested a Jacksonville man Wednesday night they found hiding in his dryer after neighbors complained that he stole their riding lawnmower.

Deputies were dispatched to the home of Robert Iinger at 5402 Kuykendall Road in Jacksonville at 10:53 p.m., where Brenda Sanders, 51, said she had heard the sound of a lawnmower outside the house earlier in the evening, according to the report. When Sanders went to the family's shed, she discovered the shed's door had apparently been busted open from inside, and Iinger's riding lawnmower was missing.

Sanders said that about 30 minutes before the incident, a man identifying himself as Matthew Stacy, 22, had knocked on her front door, asking for Gary McCurdy, 19, who also lives in the house.

Upon investigation, deputies ascertained that someone had entered the shed through a hole in the side wall, then kicked the locked shed doors open from the inside.

Deputies located the lawnmower at Stacy's residence, 6824 Old Tom Box Road, about 400 feet from Iinger's home. After entering the residence, they found Stacy hiding inside a clothes dryer. Deputies also found a small amount of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia "in plain sight."

While running Stacy's name through a law enforcement database, they learned there were several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Stacy was being held Thursday at the Pulaski County jail, awaiting extradition to Ashley County on outstanding warrants.
