Bryant rolls by McClellan

BRYANT -- The Bryant Hornets scored on their first six possessions, built a 42-0 halftime lead and defeated Little Rockl McClellan 49-21 in a nonconference game Friday night at Hornet Field.

Kylon Boyle scored three touchdowns, quarterback Gunnar Burks ran for two touchdowns and passed for a touchdown to Boyle.

McClellan opened the second half with Ezekiel Baldwin's 90-yard kickoff return and cut the lead to 42-21 on a fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown and a 53-yard touchdown pass before Seth Tucker 36-yard run set the final score.

"We came out the second half and tried to let some of the younger guys play," Bryant Coach Paul Calley said. "It almost backfired on us with a couple of turnovers and a kickoff return for a touchdown. We didn't want to get anybody hurt, that was the main thing."

Bryant's Haden Knowles had two fumble recoveries that led to first-half touchdowns.

Knowles recovered a fumble at the Hornets' 47 to set up Bryant's third touchdown, a 1-yard run by Boyle, to make it 21-0 with 2:52 left in the first quarter.

Bryant made it 28-0 with 10 seconds left in the first quarter on Brandan Warner's 49-yard run.

Knowles recovered a fumble at the Lions 17 on the ensuing kickoff and Boyle scored from the 1 five plays later for a 35-0 lead with 11:03 left in the first half.

The last touchdown of the first half came on a 9-yard pass from Burks to Boyle for the 42-0 halftime score.
