Wonderview guard commits to UA women

Arkansas women’s coach Jimmy Dykes received his third oral commitment from an in-state prospect and his fifth overall Friday when Wonderview guard Bailey Zimmerman committed to the Razorbacks.

She received a scholarship offer from Dykes on Friday and she immediately accepted.

“I was born and raised in Arkansas, and I always wanted to be a Razorback,” Zimmerman said. “ So I just knew it was just right for me.”

Zimmerman, 6-0, averaged 23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 block shots per game as a junior. She helped lead the Lady Daredevils to the Class 1A state title as a freshman.

A three-time all-state tournament team selection, Zimmerman chose the Razorbacks over scholarship offers from Nebraska, Arkansas State, Missouri State, UALR and others. She also had interest from Marquette, TCU, North Carolina, New Mexico and others.

Zimmerman has played for the Arkansas Mavericks during the spring and summer the past three years. Men’s basketball assistant Matt Zimmerman is her cousin.

“He texted me and said congratulations,” she said. “He was really excited.”

Dykes also has commitments from North Little Rock point guard Malica Monk, Conway point guard Jordan Danberry, forward Briunna Freeman of Pelham, Ga., and forward Keiryn Swenson of Wichita (Kan.) Maize.

Oral commitments are nonbinding.
