VAN BUREN, Ark. — Van Buren County authorities say a former Sebastian County sheriff's deputy has been found dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown told reporters that David Jackson was found dead Friday outside his home in what is known as Bidville township by a neighbor who was checking on him after Jackson failed to answer phone calls from his wife.
Brown said investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy — but he said the case is considered a homicide.
Brown did not immediately return a phone call on Sunday.
Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck told the Times Record (http://bit.ly/ZloGHp ) Jackson retired before Hollenbeck was elected sheriff in 2010, but said he had worked as a detention center deputy.
