Perry County Fair set for Tuesday through Saturday

PERRYVILLE — The Perry County Fair will be held Tuesday through Saturday at the fairgrounds. This year’s theme is “Cowboy Days.”

The annual fair will feature crafts and livestock exhibits, a junior livestock auction, carnival rides and games, beauty pageants, a youth talent show, live entertainment, concessions, and calf, pig and chicken scrambles.

Ed Brown, chairman of the Perry County Cooperative Extension Service of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, said the fair will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday’s events will include the Baby Doll and Baby Beau pageants at 6, followed by the Junior Fair Princess Pageant at 7. The Perry County Youth Talent Contest will also be held Tuesday night at 8. All of these competitions will be in the multipurpose building on

the fairgrounds.

“The animal judging will begin Wednesday morning,” Brown said. “Wednesday will also be Community Service Night.

“Community service agencies will set up tables and show what they are doing in the community.

“There will also be calf, pig and chicken scrambles at 6:30 p.m. in the show arena,” Brown said.

Livestock judging will continue Thursday with swine, dairy and beef cattle shows starting at 8 a.m. and continuing through noon.

Pageants will also continue Thursday with the Miss Tiny Tot and the Tiny Tot Master contests beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the Tiny Fair Princess contest at 7 and the Little Fair Princess contest at 8.

Friday’s livestock judging will begin at 9 a.m. with sheep and goat competitions. Brown said the Goat Follies is set for 6 p.m. Friday in the show arena and will feature an obstacle course and goats that have been “dressed up” by their exhibitors.

A Fancy Pants Pageant for all age divisions will be held at 6 p.m. Friday.

Brown said Saturday’s events will include a “premium sale” featuring junior livestock exhibitors selling their animals from 9-11 a.m. in the show arena. The FFA and 4-H Junior Pullet Sale and Auction will follow at 11.

Pageants will continue at 6 p.m. Saturday with the Junior, Senior and Mrs. Perry County contests, followed at 8 by the Possum Queen Pageant, which will feature men dressed as women.

The county fair will conclude Saturday night.

The fair kitchen will be open daily starting Tuesday and will be operated by the Perry County Cattlemen’s Association. Proceeds will benefit the cattlemen’s association and the Perry County Fair Association.
