Komen Arkansas refashions annual fundraiser after two-year respite

Judging from the capacity crowd at Runway for a Cause, it was sorely missed during its two-year absence from Little Rock social calendars.

The event made its triumphant return to the Metroplex on Sept. 10. Formerly presented by AY magazine, the luncheon and fashion show this year was presented by its beneficiary, the Arkansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. Guests, who included Arkansas first lady Ginger Beebe, were treated to box lunches and gift bags and were greeted by Komen Arkansas board president Leila Dockery at the beginning of the day's program. Dockery recognized AY and publisher Vickie Vowell, who founded the event.

Other than that, the show followed the format that always drew such enthusiastic crowd response: wisecracks from Craig O'Neill, who served as master of ceremonies along with Anne Jansen Broadwater; raffle ticket drawings for such prizes as a Tipton & Hurst gift basket; a silver Pandora bracelet from The Crown Shop; a 14-karat rose gold pendant with diamonds from Cecil's Fine Jewelry. And there were O'Neill's "fantasy" prizes, including a "$100 gift certificate to Cooter's Bait Shop."

Of course, the main draw was the breast cancer survivors, displaying stunning fashions modeled from local boutiques and department stores.

The event raised $75,000, according to Amy Treadway of Komen Arkansas.
