2 NLR library branches closed after power failure

The North Little Rock branches of the William F. Laman Public Library and a community center are closed Monday after a power failure caused by a blown transformer, officials say.

Nathan Hamilton, director of communications for the city of North Little Rock, said a transformer blew early Monday morning and caused the power to go out along Pershing Boulevard, where the library and North Little Rock Community Center are located.

The North Little Rock Power Co. said the library locations would not open again until the power was back up, as too much of the library is run by electricity. All the computers are down as well as the servers, making it impossible to check out books. Most likely the locations won’t open again until mid-afternoon Monday; however, the power company said they wouldn’t be surprised if they stayed closed until Tuesday.

There is no time estimate for when the community center would reopen.
