Arkansas women win opening tournament

The Arkansas women’s team shot a 9-under 282, the low round of the day, to finish at 15-under and won the Powerade Cougar Classic on Tuesday in Charleston, S.C.

Junior Regina Plasencia tied for fifth place individually after shooting 69-70-69—208, tying her career-best three-round score. Sophomore Summar Roachell shot 72-70-69—211 to finish ninth with seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.

Weather was an issue in all three rounds, delaying play Monday and forcing Tuesday’s start to a shotgun. Teams were cleared from the course for a lightning delay midway through Tuesday’s round and rain suspended play with teams in the final four holes of the event.
