Thunderstorms forecast for north Arkansas

Thunderstorms are predicted Wednesday in “quite a few places over the northern half of Arkansas,” a National Weather Service forecaster said.

Storms in southern Missouri are moving into parts of north Arkansas on Wednesday morning, and a few could be severe, creating winds of about 60 mph or up to penny-sized hail, meteorologist John Robinson said.

In the afternoon, the storms will move farther south into the state and will likely also develop in western Arkansas, he said. The storms in the west will continue into the evening, and a few will possibly be severe, Robinson said.

Some of the storms will bring heavy rain, and with possible local totals of 1 inch to 2 inches, plus “a considerable amount of cloud-to-grind lightning,” he added.
