Free Concert

CONWAY — The Conway Symphony Orchestra will give a free community concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Simon Park at Front and Main streets in downtown Conway. AARP Driver Safety Program

HEBER SPRINGS — There will be an AARP Driver Safety Program class from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the McCoy Room of the Administration/Student Services Building at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs. Individuals 55 and older who complete the course will qualify for a three-year discount on their automobile-insurance premiums in Arkansas. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Relay for Life

HEBER SPRINGS — The Cleburne County Relay for Life will be held Friday at Spring Park. The Survivor Banquet will start at 5 p.m., with the relay kicking off at 6. CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library will host its third annual Author Fair from 1-4 p.m. Participants will learn what it takes to write and sell novels, children’s books, poetry and more. Audubon Society Meeting

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center. The guest speaker will be ornithologist Dan Sheiman, who will talk about the effects of global warming on 314 species of birds in North America. Guests are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Jazz Ensembles Tribute Concert

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas jazz ensembles will perform a tribute concert for Jerry Manion at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Two UCA student bands will perform: Jazz Ensemble I and the Dixieland Band. The bands will pay tribute to Manion, who was a member of the UCA Dixieland Band for more than 35 years and a chemistry professor at UCA. Manion died July 18. RUSSELLVILLE — The new operating hours for the City Park splash pad will be noon to 7 p.m. The splash pad will be open through Oct. 5, then will close for the season. City Park is at 915 E. B St.

Pork Butt Sales

HEBER SPRINGS — The Rotary Club of Heber Springs is taking orders for the club’s famous roasted pork butts. The cost is $40, and the meat may be picked up from 8-9:30 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Eagle Bank parking lot. Proceeds will assist local schools, charities and other organizations. Augsburg Fall Fest Booth Applications

AUGSBURG — JoAnn Dorn — arts, crafts and vendor booth chairwoman — is taking applications for booth spaces for the seventh annual Augsburg Fall Fest, to be held Oct. 11 at Zion Lutheran Church at the intersection of Arkansas 333 and Augsburg Road. CONWAY — Party With a Purpose, a benefit for the Children’s Advocacy Alliance, a partnership of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the 20th Judicial District and the Central Arkansas Children’s Advocacy Center, will be held Oct. 9 at the Brick Room. Tri County Art Show

CONWAY — The Conway League of Artists will sponsor its largest exhibition of the year, The Tri County Art Show, beginning Oct. 11 at the Faulkner County Library. Prize money totaling $1,525 will be awarded in five categories: oil/acrylic, water-based media, photography/computer-generated art, 3-D installations, drawing and mixed media. Amazing Maddie Run

PERRYVILLE — The Amazing Maddie Run will be held Oct. 11, rain or shine, at the Perry County Fairgrounds. Registration for the poker run will start at 9 a.m. Motorcycles and cars will be out from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last rider will be in at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per bike; $5 per rider. Free T-shirts are available for the first 10 registered bikes. The winning hand will receive a $300 cash prize. Door prizes will be awarded, and music will be performed.
