Community concert

The Conway Symphony Orchestra will offer a community "Anniversary in the Park" concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Simon Park, Front and Main streets, Conway.

The program of classical and popular music includes portions of the Water Music by George Frideric Handel, On the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann Strauss Jr.; a medley from the Frozen movie score; and the finale from the Symphony No. 2, "Little Russian," by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky. Conductor Israel Getzov returns to the podium.

Pirate & Princess

Chamber concert

Pianist Linda Holzer will present a chamber music recital with Mariposa Duo partner Sandra McDonald, violin, and Rafael Leon, cello, at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Stella Boyle Smith Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The "Mariposa & Friends: International Treasures!" program will include the Suite Populaire Espagnole by Manuel de Falla; the Piano Trio by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich (in honor of the composer's 75th birthday); and the Piano Trio No. 7 in B-flat major, op.97, "Archduke," by Ludwig van Beethoven. Hendrix exhibition

The Hendrix College art department will open "Tomoyo Ihaya -- An Exhibition in 3 Parts" with an artist talk and opening reception, 5:30-6:30 p.m. today in the Treischmann Gallery at Hendrix, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway.

The exhibition, which will be up through Oct. 15, consists of "Tomoyo Ihaya: Drawings From Dharamsala -- Burning Tibet"; "Tomoyo Ihaya and Melissa Gill: A Mixed-Media Collaboration Inspired by Tibetan Poems," a collaboration between the Vancouver-based Japanese artist and Hendrix faculty member Gill, who created mixed-media works on paper in response to works by Tibetan poets; and "The Art and Poetry of Dissent," prints, drawings, and poetry by Tibetan artists Jampa Lungtok, Kathup Tsering, Tenzin Tsundue, Tsering Woeser and Yakman Tsering.

Opera Gala

The Muses will put on their seventh annual Opera Gala fundraiser at 7 p.m. Friday at the Muses Cultural Arts Center, 428 Orange St., Hot Springs. There will be a V.I.P. pre-show wine reception at 6 p.m.

The gala, titled "Sing to Love," will feature additional instrumentation, an expanded opera chorus and dancers from the Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre Co. collaborating on excerpts from its recent production of A Midsummer Night's Dream (music by Felix Mendelssohn, choreography by Edmond Cooper).

Weekend of Wonder

Magicians Jay Scott Berry and Maxwell Blade have teamed up to produce the second annual Weekend of Wonder magic festival, with close-up, stage and street magic showcases, one-man shows and all-star galas Friday-Sunday in various Hot Springs venues.
