People with old prescription medications at home will have the chance to dispose of them Sept. 27, the date of the ninth annual prescription take-back day, local law enforcement agencies said.
Next Saturday, the Pulaski County sheriff’s office and University of Arkansas at Little Rock police will set up stations at four temporary locations where people can drop off their old or surplus prescriptions, no questions asked. The Pulaski County sheriff’s office will have drop-off zones open at Arkansas Children’s hospital, at 1 Children's Way; Remedy Drug, at 8511 W. Markham St.; and the Walgreens pharmacy at 14820 Cantrell Road.
UALR police will accept medications at their office at 2801 S. University Ave., Suite 700.
The sheriff’s office also has a 24-hour prescription bottle dropbox at 2900 S. Woodrow St.
Arkansas’ teenage prescription abuse problem is one of the worst in the nation, according to a news release sent out by Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel. However, since the national take-back initiative began in 2010, Arkansans have disposed of 52 tons of pills.
Arkansas has become one of the leading states participating in the program, McDaniel said.
