Jacksonville police responded shortly before midnight May 4 to the 3100 block of Hines Drive, where they found a shirtless Jeremy Miller, 25, lying unconscious in the road with his shorts around his ankles. Miller was taken to North Metro Medical Center, where medical personnel determined he had a fractured skull and was bleeding from his brain, according to the report.

He was airlifted to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock with life-threatening injuries. A doctor told police that it appeared Miller had been struck in the head with a baseball bat, the report said.

A witness saw two men drag Miller down Hines Drive and drop him in the road near Braden Street, according to police. The men then walked to a home at 600 Carpenter Drive. Police later determined that Todd Paintin, 24, lived at the residence with his grandmother.

Paintin later told investigators that he and his 29-year-old brother, Joshua, had been at the home with Miller and Miller's fiancee that night, according to police. Miller's parents also told investigators that their son had been at the house with the Paintin brothers that night.

Further circumstances of the attack were unclear. Police reported that Miller smelled of intoxicants when he was found and refused to cooperate with investigators.

Joshua and Todd Paintin were arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree battery. They were not listed on the Pulaski County jail roster late Wednesday.
