Forecasters say storms are expected to roll through the state Thursday morning. Damaging winds and large hail are the main severe weather threats.

Storms are expected to make their way through southern and central Arkansas on Thursday, forecasters say.

Some severe storms are possible late in the morning and through the afternoon in those areas, National Weather Service warning coordination meteorologist John Robinson said in an email.

“The water content of the atmosphere is still rather high, so some locally heavy downpours can be expected,” he said.

An inch to 2 inches of rain will fall in some areas, and some flooding is possible, but damaging winds and large hail are the main severe weather threats, he said.

Robinson said the strongest storms will probably stay south of Little Rock, and the storms should diminish by the early evening.
