1 BEATLES

This year’s Beatles at the Ridge Festival, Friday-Saturday in downtown Walnut Ridge, just off U.S. 67/167, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s September 1964 stop at the Walnut Ridge airport. Opening act Deadwood Groove takes the Beatles Park Stage at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by headliner Jeffrey & The Pacemakers. Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, there will be local entertainment from karate to dance on three stages, special kids activities and parades, a duck-calling contest, free Sgt. Pepper-colored kazoos and a talent show. The music lineup on the main Cavenaugh Chevrolet’s Rock ’n’ Roll Highway Stage, starting at 2:30 p.m.: Government Radio Factory, Sonny Burgess & the Legendary Pacers, Riverbilly and tribute band the Liverpool Legends. The 229-piece Argenta Collection of Beatles photographs and images will be on display throughout the festival at the Studio, Main Street and Abbey Road. 2 BOO!

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, is the site of the fourth annual Arkansas Paranormal Expo, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, focusing on UFOs, Bigfoot, spiritual warfare, the supernatural, psychics/mediums and paranormal investigation. They'll be raffling off a Kindle Fire, gift certificates and baskets, books and Haunted Tours of Little Rock tickets, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy will conduct free health screenings. Dogs go fast as the Arkansas Arts Center's Children's Theatre stages Go, Dog! Go! -- adapted by Stephen Dietz and Allison Gregory from the children's classic by P.D. Stroll across the river and back again as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation presents the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday. It all begins with check-in, snacks and entertainment at 7:30 a.m. at North Little Rock's Dickey-Stephens Park. After the 8:15 opening ceremony, the walk starts at 9, going over the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge and back to the park for more entertainment and food. There will be plenty of toys for hands of all ages as the Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, presents its third annual Tinkerfest, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. For this engineering and technology-theme day, the museum will have dozens of hands-on activities from water rockets and shadow puppets to the "Car Take Apart" as well as food-related tinkering workshops. 7 BOWS

Some of the best fiddlers in the region will be competing or performing as part of the annual Arkansas State Fiddle Championship this weekend at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View. Fiddle and guitar workshops take place today; the Traditional Old Time contest is 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday; and the Contemporary Style contest is 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Friday and Saturday concerts, 7 each evening, will feature (Friday) Pepper Sauce Alley, the Keezletown Strutters, Casey Penn, Charley Sandage & Dave Brancecum and the Lazy Goat String Band and (Saturday) Caleb Cobb and the Cobb Brothers, Brad and Brandon Apple, Roger Fountain, Aarun Carter and Jonathan Trawick and Rough and Ready. The hills around Mountain View are full of artists and artisans and during this weekend's Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour, they'll open their doors to visitors in one big open house. The self-guided tour runs 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. A guide to participating studios is available at the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Craft Gallery, both located downtown. Admission is free. 9 BORTNICK

Pianist, composer and singer Ethan Bortnick, 13, will join singer Damian McGinty and members of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir, St. John's Lutheran School Regional Choir, three students from Grand Prairie Christian School and a student from Norphlet Junior High for a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Riceland Auditorium, Grand Prairie Center, Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 2709 U.S. 165 South, Stuttgart. The concert is in conjunction with the 58th annual Grand Prairie Festival of Arts and kicks off the center's 2014-15 Performance Series. Tickets are $30 and $20.
