Bail in girlfriend's slaying $500,000

BALD KNOB -- A Bald Knob man remained jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond Thursday after his arrest in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Jesse Swain, 35, was arrested in Judsonia on a first-degree murder charge Tuesday in the death that day of Erica Lockhart, 28, Bald Knob Police Chief Timothy Sanford said Thursday.

Swain was held Thursday in the White County jail in Searcy.

The chief said Lockhart had been stabbed multiple times. Police found a folding, hunting-type knife that they believe was the weapon, Sanford said.

The chief said that after the stabbing, Swain went to his mother's job in Heber Springs "and advised her that he'd thought he'd done something really bad. He told her that he may have killed his girlfriend."

The mother began driving her son toward Bald Knob while contacting police by cellphone, Sanford said. When police stopped the vehicle, Swain was arrested.

Prosecuting Attorney Chris Raff said Thursday that he hasn't received the investigative file yet and hasn't filed formal charges.
