GREENWOOD — Greenwood authorities have started a more than $2 million project to turn a former post office into a police station.
The Southwest Times Record reports a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday.
Mayor Doug Kinslow says the officers have been working out of a closet space at City Hall. He told the crowd he feels "safer already."
Voters overwhelming approved a tax hike in December to fund the station. The city purchased the vacant building for nearly $320,000.
Police Chief Will Dawson says he'd like to move in to the building by July 1. He says part of the property is in bad shape and will need a lot of work.
