The Arkansas Highway Commission and Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department have accepted a $98.4 million bid for the Broadway Bridge replacement project, officials announced Friday.
Massman Construction Co. in Kansas City offered the lowest as-read bid for the project as well as the shortest span for the bridge to be out of service — six months, or about 180 days — of the four contractors under consideration.
The contract with Massman is the single-largest contract ever awarded by the commission, the Highway Department said.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2016. Highway officials said it's not yet known when the current bridge, which connects the downtown areas of Little Rock and North Little Rock, will be taken out of service.
