Bridges survey planned for Spa City area

Routine bridge inspections will require lanes to close on Arkansas 7, U.S. 70 and U.S. 270 in Garland County next week, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials said.

The work on U.S. 70, along the Martin Luther King Expressway, will be performed Monday. Eastbound and westbound bridges, constructed in 2002 over Gulpha Creek and Westinghouse Drive, just north of U.S. 270, will be inspected. During the inspection, either the eastbound or the westbound outside lane will be closed. The closures will be between 9 a.m. and noon, weather permitting.

The work on Arkansas 7, which is Central Avenue in Hot Springs, is set for Tuesday and Wednesday. The bridge, built in 1991, is over Lake Hamilton, just north of Long Island Drive. During the inspection, either the northbound or southbound outside lane will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The work on U.S. 270 will be done on Thursday. The bridge, constructed in 1994, is also over Lake Hamilton. During the inspection, either the eastbound or westbound outside lane will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

Besides the work on the bridge on U.S. 270, crews will do routine maintenance, including general cleaning, weed removal and drain cleaning along the median. The work will require closing the westbound inside lane within the moving work area.

The westbound inside lane closures will be from Sept. 29-Oct. 2, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs. The westbound work had been postponed from an earlier date.
