Rockets intercept Patriots plan

Little Rock Catholic's defense intercepted five Parkview passes Friday night at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, and the Rockets' offense took advantage en route to a 28-7 victory over Little Rock Parkview.

The Rockets (1-2) opened the season with losses to 7A/6A East powerhouses North Little Rock and Cabot, but found less resistance against the 6A-South Patriots (2-1), who entered the game having outscored their first two opponents, 75-0.

Catholic, which led 14-0 at the half, intercepted four Parkview passes in the second half.

Rockets quarterback Andre Sale passed for 179 yards and three touchdowns.

Catholic completed an 82-yard touchdown drive when running back Lance Harville-Thomas scored on a 2-yard run with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter.

Sale threw his first touchdown pass, for 22 yards to receiver Trey Purifoy in the corner of the end zone, to make it 14-0 with 3:36 left in the first half.

Catholic led 21-0 when Parkview scored with 11:54 to play in the game on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Koilan Jackson to receiver Jason Green to cut the deficit to 21-7.

Two more interceptions by the Catholic defense gave the Rockets short fields, and Catholic cashed in on a second Sale-Purifoy touchdown pass, from 21 yards.

Parkview outgained Catholic 220-217, but the interceptions led to a field-position advantage for the Rockets.

Purifoy finished with 5 catches for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Harville-Thomas rushed 21 times for 48 yards. Parkview's Jackson completed 10 of 22 passes for 128 yards; running back Jason Green led all rushers with 65 yards on 13 attempts.

JEFFERSON CITY (MO.) 37, ROGERS 21

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Quarterback Isaac Roling ran for a 10-yard touchdown and passed for another to lead Jefferson City (4-1) past Rogers (1-2).

Bryan Grigsby had 22 carries for 139 yards for Rogers.

Quarterback Cole Evans broke loose for an 80-yard touchdown on the Mounties’ first possession of the game, but he was knocked out the game with a rib injury in the third quarter with Rogers trailing 37-21.

NAVASOTA, TEXAS 49,

ROGERS HERITAGE 10

NAVASOTA, Texas — Navasota (4-0) scored on six of its first seven possessions as it easily handled Rogers Heritage (1-2) in a nonconference game at Rattler Stadium.

Rattlers quarterback Shelton Eppler completed 18 of 31 passes for 244 yards with 4 touchdown passes, all in the first half, and 1 interception.

Running back Derrion Randle added 184 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 10 carries and scored on a 19-yard screen pass.

Joey Saucier scored Rogers Heritage’s only touchdown on a 49-yard run.

He finished with 128 yards on 18 carries as the War Eagles ran for 269 yards.

FARMINGTON 42,

VAN BUREN 22

FARMINGTON — Evan O’Dell had 8 receptions for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Class 5A Farmington (3-0) past Class 7A Van Buren (2-1) in a nonconference game.

Cardinals quarterback Brice Waggle pass for the three touchdowns, and Justice Hobbs had 22 carries for 84 yards.

Farmington led 14-6 after the opening quarter, then blew open the game by scoring 28 unanswered points.

BIXBY (OKLA.) 44,

SPRINGDALE 20

BIXBY, Okla. — Nic Roller ran for 150 yards and three touchdowns as Bixby (2-1) broke loose in the second half of a nonconference victory over Springdale (0-3).

Bixby ran for 283 yards on the night and scored three times in the third quarter to break open the game.

Springdale junior quarterback Fuller Chandler completed 20 of 33 passes for 296 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he also threw 2 interceptions in the first half.

Owens had 3 receptions for 119 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown pass. Salvador Sandoval added 9 receptions for 101 yards and 1 touchdown.

LITTLE ROCK FAIR 0

Jake Ferguson caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a score as No. 6 Cabot (2-1) ran out to a five-touchdown lead at halftime and coasted to victory at Little Rock Fair (0-3).

Jess Reed opened the scoring for Cabot with a 2-yard touchdown run, while Ferguson followed with a 30-yard scoring reception from Jarred Barnes in the first quarter.

After touchdown runs by Barnes and Kolton Eads in the second, Ferguson returned a punt 70 yards for a 35-0 Cabot lead at halftime.
