Man held in shooting of girlfriend

A 37-year-old Little Rock man is facing a charge of first-degree domestic battery after he shot his girlfriend in the shoulder Sunday, authorities said.

Marcus Horton told investigators he was cleaning a gun at a home the couple shares in the 600 block of East 23rd Street when it went off and hit his 48-year-old girlfriend about 11:15 a.m., police spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said in an email.

But according to an incident report on the shooting, the victim said she and Horton were arguing and he was "messing around with the [gun] and it discharged."

The victim was taken to CHI St. Vincent for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Horton was booked into the Pulaski County jail, where he remained late Monday morning with bail set at $7,500.
