WHAT: Evol Street Tacos
STATS: Vary by flavor. The Korean Style Beef & Kimchi, for example, contain 260 calories and 6 fat, 39 carbohydrate, 3 fiber and 12 protein grams per serving (two tacos with sauce). We found them at Target, 420 S. University Ave., Little Rock. More information at evol.com.
THE SKINNY: Evol -- a brand of more natural and interesting frozen foods -- is love spelled backward. And while we can't say we love any frozen entrees, we usually like -- make that "ekil" -- Evol's offerings.
Evol's latest invention is Street Tacos, available in four varieties: Korean Style Beef & Kimchi, Shredded Chicken & Caramelized Onion, Sweet Potato, Black Bean & Goat Cheese and Uncured Bacon, Potato & Poblano Pepper. All feature two double-wrapped corn tortilla tacos in a cute paper microwaveable tray with a sauce pouch that thaws in warm water. Ready in 2 minutes, 15 seconds, they're quicker than a trip to a food truck.
But are they as tasty? The filler texture of Korean Style Beef & Kimchi tacos was slightly mushy. Still, there was a good deal of flavor and fire in the tacos served with a "Sweet & Spicy Sriracha" sauce that was far more spicy than sweet.
If only it came with a little frozen margarita. We'd really "evol" that.
